Celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month
National Hispanic Heritage Month, celebrated from September 15th to October 15th, is a vibrant recognition of the rich cultural contributions, history, and achievements of Hispanic and Latino communities in the United States. This is a time to honor Hispanic heritage and serve as reminder of the ongoing fight for equality and the need for continued progress toward inclusivity and diversity in all areas of life, including the workplace.
Why We Celebrate
The roots of National Hispanic Heritage Month date back to 1968 when it was first introduced as Hispanic Heritage Week by President Lyndon B. Johnson. It was later expanded to a month-long celebration by President Ronald Reagan in 1988. The significance of the dates is tied to the independence anniversaries of several Latin American countries, including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua, which all celebrate their independence on September 15th. Mexico and Chile follow closely behind with their independence days on September 16th and 18th, respectively.
